Purpose

The City of Duluth uses snow emergencies to ensure the streets and avenues throughout the city can be safely navigated by the Emergency Services vehicles along with the public.

Snow Emergency Parking Regulations

Prior to issuing a snow emergency, the following items may be considered: future weather forecasts, timing of the snow event, the type and moisture content of precipitation, and accumulation rates.

The City of Duluth may declare a snow emergency no later than 4:00 P.M. on any calendar day, except Sunday, which shall be effective at 8:00 P.M. on that day. The ability of the City of Duluth Streets Maintenance crews to successfully clear the streets of snow, from curb to curb, depends on compliance with the parking regulations in effect during the snow emergency. To help with this, the parking requirements during a snow emergency align with the parking requirements for Sunday changeover, with which most residents should be familiar.

Snow Emergency = Parking Emergency

Updated snow emergency response now aligns with requirements for alternate side parking Sunday change-over. When a snow emergency is declared, simply move your vehicle to the opposite side of the street. When the street is plowed, move your vehicle back to the clear side of the street.

Step 1: Stand by

Stay in your parking space while plows clear the opposite side of the street.
