Water main work planned for February 17

Upgrades will improve water service

[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth is making improvements to water service in the Duluth Heights and Miller Hill Mall area. As part of the Highland Pump Station Improvement Project, a crew will be making a water main connection at the pump station on Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. This project is necessary to meet current and future demands of residents and businesses in the area and help reduce the need for periodic watering restrictions.

As a result of this work, customers in a portion of the Duluth Heights area may experience lower water pressures. Sprinkler systems and automatic flush valves could be affected by pressure drops. Customers are asked to limit their water usage during this time. The affected area extends from Kenwood Avenue on the east to Arlington Road, Piedmont Avenue and Hutchinson Road on the west; and from approximately Skyline Boulevard on the south to Arrowhead Road on the north.

Other work at the station involves upgrades to the existing building and computer system. The projected completion date for the project is June 2011.
