The 12th annual Duluth Polar Plunge for Special Olympics will be held this Saturday, February 19th, 2011. This event is put on annually by local Law Enforcement working with Special Olympic organizers and athletes.
This is an annual fund raiser to raise money for athletes in our area to compete and attend many different events throughout the year such as weight lifting, bowling, floor hockey, track events, soccer and many more.
We anticipate over 1000 plungers and more than $100,000 dollars being raised, making this our largest Polar Plunge yet and the second biggest among the 15 Polar Plunges in the state of Minnesota.
We invite everyone to come to Grandma's Sports Garden for registration from noon until 3pm. During registration there will be a costume contest with the audience picking the winners by applause. Then over to the lake walk by the Endion station where the Polar Plunge will begin at 3pm and will last approximately one hour, then back to Grandma’s Sports Garden for a post plunge party, prizes and immediate viewing of the plunge on the big screens.
Lots of fun for the whole family, if you would like to join the fun and dress up in your favorite costume you may click on the following link to register online and have friends and family donate money in your name, or you can click on link to donate to other people.
Local Law Enforcement and Special Olympics thank you for your support.
