SUBJECT: 12 year old Wisconsin boy dies after skiing accident

INCIDENT TIME: 4:15PM
INCIDENT LOCATION: Spirit Mountain

On Friday, February 18th, 2011 at 4:15PM Gold Cross Ambulance was dispatched to 8455 Grand Avenue (which is a Spirit Mountain pick up point) for an unconscious patient with trauma. The patient, a 12 year old Wisconsin boy, is transported by ambulance to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center where he is pronounced dead at 4:50PM.
 
The Duluth Police Department investigating the incident talked with Spirit Mountain Ski Patrol Officers who found the victim lying on the ground in a tree line halfway down a ski run, with obvious trauma and not breathing. They called 911 and started aid for the victim. The victim was at Spirit Mountain skiing with a church group from Wisconsin. 
 
Preliminary investigation would indicate this was an accident. Anyone that witnessed this is asked to call the Duluth Police Department at (218) 730-5050. No further information is available.
