The Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 938 88th Ave. West at 1044 this morning. Engine 10 from Gary arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a window, and heavy smoke conditions inside.

Once firefighters arrived from Station 8 in West Duluth, firefighters made entry into the burning structure and extinguished a blaze in the kitchen.

The home was occupied at the time of the fire, but occupants were able to escape to the safety of a neighbors home. No injuries were reported.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire damage to a single room, however there was significant smoke damage throughout the two-story dwelling.

Initial damage estimates include $20,000 to the structure, and an additional $25,000 to the contents of the home.

The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation; fire crews remained on the scene for over an hour.
