SUBJECT: Suspicious Device determined to be non-explosive

INCIDENT LOCATION: Central High School, 800 East Central Entrance
On Friday, March 4th, 2011 shortly after 3:00PM the Duluth Police School Resource Officer at Central High School received information about a suspicious device in the parking lot. The Officer located the device and a State Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team was called to investigate further.
Students were just getting out of school for the day and were safely escorted off campus. The few students left that could not leave were brought down to the Secondary Technical Campus until arrangements for transportation were made. No one was injured.
A State Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team arrived and was able to secure the device, which was determined to be non-explosive. Barricades around the parking lot have been removed and the area is safe.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Duluth Police Department at (218) 730-5150.
