INCIDENT TIME: 1:15PM
INCIDENT LOCATION: 315 South 70th Avenue West

On Monday March 21st at 1:55PM Duluth Police Officers responded to a group home at 315 S. 70th Avenue West. The caller said that a staff person had been assaulted by a resident of the home.

Officer Steven Latour, a 20 year member of the Duluth Police Department and Officer Angela Robertson, a 2 year member of the Duluth Police Department arrived a short time later and found the group home on fire and heard the sounds of glass breaking. A 25 year old male resident of the Duluth group home, Samson Waddell met the officers in front of the home and proceeded to physically assault the officers. The officers attempted to control the situation by using a taser. Waddell then attempted to disarm Officer Latour. Officer Robertson fired one shot and Waddell stopped fighting.  Waddell was transported to a local hospital and treated for a gunshot wound. Waddell had lived at the group home for one week. There were several witnesses to this incident.

Waddell was later flown to Hennepin County Medical Center due to the nature of his injury and is in critical condition. Officer Robertson and the staff person were both treated and released from local hospitals.

The Minnesota BCA (Bureau of Criminal Apprehension) has been requested to investigate the shooting and their investigation is continuing.
