Public forums to discuss neighborhood
development needs

[Duluth, MN] - Each year the City of Duluth receives funds from the federal government to assist low income persons, and neighborhoods, to improve housing, public services, economic development and public facilities. To assist in how, what, and where these funds are spent the Community Development Office will be conducting two public forums this month. These forums provide the public an opportunity for citizens to share insight about neighborhood issues and concerns. Participants are also encouraged to outline potential solutions to neighborhood issues.

Both forums are open to all city residents but with a different neighborhood focus at each site. The first forum is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11 starting at 6:30 pm at the Goodfellowship Hall located at 1242 88th Avenue West in Morgan Park with the focus being on Morgan Park and West Duluth. The second forum is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17 at 6:30 pm in the Central Hillside Community Center which is at 12 E. Fourth Street with the focus being on Lincoln Park and the Hillside neighborhoods.

The public is also encouraged to participate in the Community Development Office on line forum. Questions will be posed allowing you to provide comments. The questions will address residential energy improvements, housing affordability, transportation, and neighborhood safety and will be changed every three or four days. The public will be able to submit comments between Monday, May 9, 2011 and Friday May 20, 2011.

For citizens who are not able to attend the public forums, comments can also be submitted in writing. Comments can be faxed to (218) 730-5915 or emails sent to khamre@duluthmn.gov  Comments sent via U.S. postal service can be mailed to the Community Development Office in Duluth City Hall, 411 West First Street, Room 407, Duluth, MN 55802.
