Enger Park Restoration plans unveiled,
City receives $40k from private donor
[Duluth, MN] – Mayor Don Ness accepted a generous donation on behalf of the City of Duluth from the Julia Newell Marshall Fund dedicated to building a new grand gazebo in Enger Park and installing accessible trails leading up to the new structure. This donation helps kick start the community wide campaign to raise funds for renovations and upgrades to one of Duluth’s most beloved parks and home of the iconic Enger Tower.
This spring the City started refurbishing the 72 year old Enger Tower and plans to complete work by the end of May. New lighting is being installed funded by the Rotary Club 25 of Duluth. This is just the beginning phase of a series of upgrades planned for the park.
“We are extremely grateful for the Julia Newell Marshall donation and the Marshall family’s ongoing contributions to the community. The views from this new gazebo will be spectacular and will be a tremendous addition to Enger Park. The new accessible trail will make the views from the ledge available to all,” said Mayor Don Ness.
The City is proposing park upgrades and greatly enhanced accessibility within the park including:
- A new and larger gazebo that will hold at least 100 people for events and ceremonies,
- New trails to allow people all ages and abilities to access various rest nodes and enjoy scenic overlooks in the park,
- A renovated pavilion with outdoor seating and new accessible washroom facilities, and
- Expanded parking facilities to accommodate events and visitors.
The City hopes to complete the project over the next couple of years with contributions from volunteers, private donors, foundations, special events, and civic groups. The community will play a significant role in helping to make Enger Park a premier regional recreation area and preserve it for the future.
