INCIDENT LOCATION: 801 East Second Street, Apartment #216
On Saturday May 14th, 2011 at 11:19AM the Duluth Police Department, Duluth Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to a report of smoke coming from 801 East Second Street, Apartment #216.
The initial investigation revealed that a second floor resident went into the hallway after the fire alarm activated and he could see smoke coming from apartment #216 across the hall. He went in and found the apartment filled with smoke, put out a small fire inside and found the 73 year old male resident unresponsive. He was pronounced dead a short time later. The victim had extensive pre-existing medical problems and there is no indication of foul play.
The Duluth Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire. The name of the victim will be released pending family notifications. No further information is available at this time.
