Pothole Reduction Program Starts Today
[Duluth, MN] – Beginning today, area asphalt plants now have “hot mix” asphalt available for pothole repair and street improvement. City crews have been eagerly awaiting the availability of hot mix in order to kick off the city’s new Pothole Reduction Program.
“The opening of hot mix plants is cause for celebration in our city,” said Mayor Don Ness. “After a winter that has punished our city streets, we can finally get out there and make needed improvements. This year will be the most extensive street improvement season that Duluth has seen in decades and we’re excited to get started.”
The City will rehabilitate over 25 miles of city streets as part of the Mayor’s plan to improve 100 miles in five years. In addition, the City will fill every pothole by mid-summer and complete 60 miles of crack sealing.
Crews will start pothole patching in the following areas:
- Two crews will be placed in the Canal Park and downtown area working their way up the hillside.
- One crew will start in the far west working east.
- One crew will start from the east on Scenic Highway 61 working west.
- One crew will start in upper Woodland and work west across the top of the hill.
Effective use of crews with improved materials and techniques equate to better roads and a higher quality of living Duluthians and visitors can all enjoy.
