SUBJECT: Duluth Man Charged with Nine 2nd Degree Burglary Charges

On Friday, April 29th, 2011 Officers from the Duluth Police Department executed a search warrant in the 200 block of West 7th Street related to a burglary investigation. The search warrant authorized a search of a residence and vehicle owned by the suspect in the investigation, Michael Peters, a 40 year old resident of Duluth. He was lodged at the St. Louis County Jail on four felony charges of 2nd Degree Burglary. On Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011, he was placed on supervised release.

On Friday May 13th, 2011 Duluth Police officers arrested Michael Peters again after establishing probable cause that he had committed five additional burglaries, one of which was confirmed to have occurred after he was placed on supervised release on May 3rd, 2011.

Based on evidence located during the execution of the search warrant and additional corroboration obtained by investigating officers from the Duluth Police Property Crimes Unit, Peters was linked as a suspect to at least nine residential burglaries.  Peters is suspected to have stolen several thousand dollars worth of jewelry and silverware, among other items.

Investigators learned that during the commission of the burglaries, Peters was employed as a newspaper delivery person and through his duties became aware that specific residences on his route were temporarily unoccupied. It is believed that Peters utilized this information to target his victims.

The nine burglaries that Peters has been charged with were committed from Sunday February 13th, 2011 through Wednesday May 11th, 2011 in the following neighborhoods.

  • 1700 block of Carver Avenue
  • 1800 block of Carver Avenue
  • 1900 block of Waverly Avenue
  • 200 block of St. Paul Avenue
  • 200 block of West St. Marie Street
  • 1800 block of Dunedin Avenue
  • 100 block of Lewis Street
  • 2000 block of Woodland Avenue
Michael Peters is currently being held at the St. Louis County Jail and has been formally charged by the Saint Louis County Attorney’s Office with nine felony charges of 2nd Degree Burglary.
