SUBJECT: 24 year old Duluth Man dies in a Single Vehicle Crash

INCIDENT LOCATION: 13320 West 3rd Street
On Friday June 3rd, 2011 at 1:00AM Duluth Police responded to a single vehicle rollover crash that occurred at 13320 West 3rd Street and Highway 23, in the Fon du Lac neighborhood.
Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle, a black 2008 Honda Accord, had been traveling eastbound on Highway 23 from Wisconsin in the right lane. After crossing the St. Louis River Bridge, it failed to negotiate the right hand-curve, crossed the median and rolled. It came to a rest against trees on the north side of Highway 23. Occupants of the vehicle had to be extricated by the Duluth Fire Department. All occupants were transported to local hospitals by Gold Cross Ambulance.
The driver was identified as Jeremy Shea, a 21 year old, male resident of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was transported to St. Lukes Hospital for his non-life threatening injuries.
The passengers in the vehicle were identified as:
Tim Stephenson, a 24 year old, male resident of Duluth. Stephenson was transported to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
James Nelson, a 27 year old, male resident of Duluth. Nelson was transported was transported to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
Samuel Rodman, a 23 year old, male resident of Duluth. Rodman was transported to St. Lukes Hospital for his life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicates that excessive speed and alcohol impairment were a factor in this crash. The Duluth Police Department Crash Investigations Unit’s investigation is continuing. No further information is available at this time.
