NOTICE OF MICHIGAN STREET CLOSURE (EAST 100 BLOCK)

[Duluth, MN] – East Michigan Street (between 1st Avenue East and 2nd Avenue East and the I 35 on ramp) in downtown Duluth will be closed from June 20,2011 to July 20, 2011 to allow workers to install a diversion sewer in the roadway. This sewer is part of the third phase of the “East Interceptor Sanitary Sewer Overflow Storage Facility.” This project is part of an ongoing effort by the City of Duluth to eliminate sanitary sewer overflows into Lake Superior in compliance with an Environmental Protection Agency consent decree.  Once completed the new sewer diversion system will eliminate sewer overflows in the east downtown area and divert overflows from the lake.

Michigan Street traffic will be detoured up 1st Ave E. to Superior Street and on to 2nd Ave. E. back down to Michigan Street. Local access to the Michigan Street parking lot and business deliveries will be available. Parking and delivery traffic will need to exit from Michigan Street by going west to 1st Ave. E. Parking along Michigan Street will not be allowed.

In addition, the south bound lane of 1st Ave. E. between Michigan Street and Superior Street will be closed.

The City thanks the public for their cooperation to allow crews the opportunity to complete the work as quickly as possible.
