NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire
CASE NO.: 11-004931
INCIDENT DATE: 7/21/2011
INCIDENT TIME: 20:52
INCIDENT LOCATION: 315 N. 2nd Ave. East

At 2052 hours this evening, the Duluth Fire Department responded to report of smoke in an apartment at 315 N. 2nd Avenue East. Upon arrival, fire companies found a locked apartment with smoke alarms sounding inside and an odor of smoke. While evacuating adjacent units, firefighters quickly forced entry into the burning apartment and extinguished a fire in a bathroom.

The fire was extinguished quickly, and damage was limited to an estimated $5,000. There was no occupants in the unit at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office.

The fire department credits quick acting neighbors who heard the alarms and called 911. It was their action coupled with the rapid extinguishment of the fire that limited the extent of damage.
