NATURE OF INCIDENT: Officer Involved Shooting

INCIDENT LOCATION: 1400 block 102nd Avenue West

On Sunday, August 28th, 2011 at 10:26PM Duluth Police attempted to stop a stolen 2002 Infiniti in Gary New Duluth. The vehicle did not stop and a pursuit ensued, which ended shortly after when the vehicle crashed at 102nd Avenue West and Dickson Street.

The suspect then entered a residence in the 1400 block of 102nd Avenue West. Two Duluth Police officers entered the residence after suspect. The suspect who was armed fired at the officers. One officer returned fire, killing the suspect. A female occupant in the house suffered a non life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital. The officers were not injured.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) was contacted and will be the lead agency in the officer involved shooting investigation. No further information is available at this time.

A press briefing will be held on Monday, August 29th, 2011 at 10:00AM in the Duluth Police Training Room in City Hall.
