Congressman James Oberstar, along with officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the City of Duluth and Western Lake Superior Sanitary District will sign Project Cooperation Agreements at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, September 3, 2009 for three projects aimed at improving sewer system reliability and helping to eliminate sanitary sewer overflows to Lake Superior. Remarks and the signing ceremony will be held on the waterfront on Harbor Drive behind the DECC, in Duluth.
Under the Project Cooperation Agreements, two City of Duluth projects and one WLSSD project will receive construction grant funds. The funding for the projects is provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to the Water Resources Development Act section 569. The funds are overseen by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The projects to receive funding are:
- City of Duluth East Interceptor Sanitary Sewer Overflow Storage Basin (phase I) in the amount of $2,010,000
- Cured-in-place pipe rehabilitation of sanitary sewers in Duluth in the amount of $375,000
- WLSSD Gary New Duluth Pump Station reconstruction in the amount of $615,000.
