INCIDENT LOCATION: 5300 Glenwood Street
At 0250 this morning the Duluth Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a fire at the Lester Park School; 5300 Glenwood Street. #6 Engine from Lakeside arrived within three minutes of the call and reported that the playground equipment area was fully involved with fire. The area containing the equipment is filled with rubber chips; which were also involved.
The fire was extinguished, however the new playground sustained significant damage from the fire. The initial damage estimate is placed at $45,000, but the actual damage could be higher than that.
The Duluth Fire Marshal's Office is investigating as to the origin and cause; however there is little chance the cause of the fire will be accidental.
