SUBJECT: Police Alert Citizens of firearms being stolen in recent Vehicle Prowls
BY: DPD Public Information Officer Jim Hansen

NATURE OF INCIDENT: Public Awareness
CASE NO.:
INCIDENT DATE: 10/21/2011
INCIDENT TIME:
INCIDENT LOCATION: Duluth and Surrounding Area

The Duluth Police Department is reminding citizens not to store firearms in their vehicles. The advisory is being put out with hunting season here, which can increase instances where firearms are left in vehicles.

Duluth Police have taken two reports of stolen firearms in the past week and both involved hunters who had packed their vehicles the night before they were leaving and then had their guns stolen in vehicle prowls.

If your vehicle is broken into or there is a vehicle prowl in progress, call 911.  With your help, vehicle prowls will go down and police have a better chance of catching and charging those responsible.
