Duluth Events to Honor Veterans

[Duluth, MN] – Veterans will take the streets in strength and solidarity on Friday, November 11, 2011 as part of the Duluth Veteran’s Day events. Hundreds of veterans representing all branches of the military will be in full uniform marching from the front of the Duluth Depot on Michigan Street at 10:00 AM, up to Superior Street, and down to Lake Avenue before crossing to the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC).

Veterans and all community members are encouraged to participate and honor our veterans. The public can view the parade at any point along the course of the march or attend the official ceremony at 11:00 AM at the DECC auditorium. Mayor Don Ness will make remarks followed by this year’s keynote speaker, Joseph Gomer. Mr Gomer was a pilot with the Tuskegee Airmen who valiantly served the United States during WWII in the face of racism. The Tuskegee Airmen’s dedication and service helped pave the way for integration of people of color into the military.

“I encourage all Duluthians to come out and demonstrate their support for our veterans. These events occur just once each year and serves as the opportunity for Duluthians to line the streets or fill the auditorium as a show of gratitude to the brave men and women who have made hefty sacrifices to this country in the name of freedom and democracy,” said Mayor Don Ness.

Several Duluth restaurants are also showing their gratitude by providing special meals for Veterans on Friday. They are: Duluth Grill, Texas Road House, Famous Dave’s, Outback, and Applebee’s.
