PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS DULUTH HEIGHTS CONNECTOR ROUTE
[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth is conducting a Duluth Heights Connector Study that will identify a preferred configuration for a new roadway connection between the Miller Hill commercial district and the east side of Duluth. The study will also identify the character of the proposed connection and access management strategies that would appropriately steer traffic to the selected route and alleviate stress on neighborhood streets. A Duluth Heights Connector Task Force has been established for this purpose and will begin its planning process in early December. Residents are encouraged to participate and provide input at an upcoming community meeting.
"Over the past year, we've been making important progress on the Joshua Avenue Connector. We've committed to completing environmental and engineering work to create a shovel ready project. We need public input on this project, both to provide feedback on project design and to demonstrate public support for the completion of this vital link. I am committed to accomplishing this project, but the City cannot do it alone. We need our partners at the county, state, and federal levels to assist us, the public must make it clear that this is a need, not a want. The safety of kids in the Duluth Heights neighborhood is at risk, the Joshua Avenue Connector is the solution," said Mayor Don Ness.
The community meeting will inform residents of the project, particularly its history, the planning process, and how citizens can participate in the planning and design of a connector within the Joshua Avenue Corridor. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 6:00 pm on the second floor room W2630 on the Lake Superior College campus, 2101 Trinity Road in Duluth.
