Events to Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.
[Duluth, MN] - The public is invited to participate in a number of events in Duluth to be held January 13 through January 16, 2012 to celebrate and recognize Martin Luther King, Jr. All events are free and open to the public.
Friday, January 13 is Civil Rights Movie Night at Church of Restoration, 2024 West Superior Street. The movie will start at 7 p.m. Non-perishable food items are requested for donation.
A birthday celebration for Dr. King will take place on January 14 at 6:00 p.m. and will include soup supper, cake, reflections from local leaders and readings by Denfeld students. The event will be held at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Duluth, 835 College Street. Non-perishable food items are requested for donation.
On Sunday, January 15, a 6:00 p.m. community worship service will feature Rev. Donald Bryant, Jr. to be held at Christ Temple Victory Center, 330 N. 59th Ave West. Non-perishable food items are requested for donation.
On Monday, January 16, a Free Community Breakfast will be held starting at 7:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 2430 West Third Street, Duluth. The breakfast features a broadcast of Naomi Tutu’s speech from Minneapolis. (The breakfast is sponsored in part by General Mills Foundation.) Non-perishable food items are requested for donation.
A March and Rally will take place after the breakfast. Those planning to march from the Washington Center (corner of 4th Street and Lake Ave) to the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) should gather at 10:30 a.m. at the Washington Center. The march will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the rally will begin at the DECC at 11:45 a.m. with keynote speaker, Dr. Janet Haynes.
In the evening at 6:00 p.m., the Duluth Labor Temple is showing the movie “At the River I Stand”, 2002 London Road. Non-perishable food items are requested for donation.
