Public meeting to discuss land use recommendations for college neighborhoods
[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth Planning Division invites the public to attend the Higher Education Small Area Plan Public Meeting on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Kirby Ballroom on the University of Minnesota Duluth campus. City staff will make a presentation on the proposed recommendations which were developed from public meetings held during the past year.
Small Area Plans build on the goals, policies, and implementation strategies in the City’s 2006 Comprehensive Land Use Plan and serve to augment the plan by providing more detailed recommendations. The Higher Education Small Area Plan includes the areas around two of the city’s colleges, UMD and St. Scholastica. The purpose of the plan is to balance the needs of colleges and students with the needs of area residents. The planning process began in the spring of 2011 and is expected to conclude in the spring of 2012.
The Kirby Ballroom is located on the 3rd floor of the Kirby Student Center and is handicapped accessible. A map showing the location of the Kirby Student Center can be found at http://www.d.umn.edu/maps/KSC/.
Parking information: Pay Lot G is available at a cost of $2.25, meters are enforced until 6:30 p.m. at a cost of a quarter for 20 minutes, and Maroon Lot B will be available free of charge for that evening. From Lot B, enter the concourse door into Solon Campus Center near the corridor from Darland Administration Building. http://www.d.umn.edu/maps/big_UMD_map.gif
