NATURE OF INCIDENT: Duluth Man Charged in Taco Johns Armed Robbery

On Saturday November 12th, 2011 at 9:15PM the Duluth Police Department responded to the report of an armed robbery at Taco Johns, 315 East Central Entrance. 

Initial investigation found that a white male wearing a ski-mask, black winter jacket and hat, came into Taco Johns and displayed a handgun and ordered an employee to open a safe. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of money and ran south from the store.  No one was injured during the robbery.
 
Follow-up investigation revealed that a robbery occurred the next day, Sunday November 13th, 2011 in Fargo, North Dakota.  The Fargo, North Dakota Police Department had a 30 year old Duluth man in custody for attempting to rob a McDonald’s restaurant at gun point. Duluth Police Investigators contacted the Fargo Police Department because of the similarities of both robberies. The Duluth man in custody there was identified as Andrew Salus. 
 
Due to further investigation, Salus has been formally charged in the Duluth Taco Johns Armed Robbery by the Saint Louis County Attorney’s Office.  He has been charged with Aggravated Robbery in the First Degree and two counts of Terrorist Threats. Andrew Salus remains in the Cass County Jail in Fargo, North Dakota on the robbery that occurred there. 
 
Andrew Salus has extensive criminal history convictions for; Aid and Abet Escape, Aid and Abet 3rd Degree Burglary, Receiving Stolen Property, Theft, Escape from Custody, Attempted Theft by Swindle, Domestic Assault, Tampering w/Motor Vehicle, a Federal Drug Conviction and multiple traffic related convictions. Also, he is currently on Federal Probation for Drug Charges.
