Expanded Library Hours Begin Today
 
[Duluth, MN] - The Duluth Public Library announces expanded open hours at all three library locations, beginning today, January 17, 2012. Elected officials from the State, County, and City were present along with library supporters at a press conference to celebrate the new hours. The Duluth Public Library system has undergone significant staff and budget reductions in the past several years. With the public’s support of the Parks Referendum, funds that were typically set aside for parks as part of the City’s Administrative operations will now support the expansion of services and hours at every library location to benefit the public. The last time the Duluth library system was able to provide this level of service was fall 2007.  
 
“We are excited to be able to offer additional services at our libraries. In the past year, all three libraries reported nearly 377,000 visits, a number which has been increasing while hours had been reduced. Duluthians value and appreciate this essential service and you demonstrated that with the passage of the Parks referendum. For that, we thank you,” said Mayor Don Ness.
