Water main breaks disrupt water service in Duluth neigborhoods

[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth identified an electrical problem at the water plant over the weekend  which caused a pressure surge through various water mains. This surge resulted in too much pressure on the system and multiple watermain breaks occurred in the Lakeside neighborhood and at least one in Lincoln Park. Old pipes and frost movement underground compounded the problem. 

 
The neighborhoods impacted are: upper Lakeside from 48th Ave East to 53rd Ave; Streets may include Idlewile, Glendale, Ivanhoe, Bald Eagle Trail, Oakley, and Norwood. The other location is 25th Ave West and Superior Street.

Four Crews are working to expedite repairs. Water has been shut down to these specific neighborhoods. The City Utility Operations staff are working to restore water to the impacted areas as quickly as possible.

 

Residents who see any unusual amounts of water surging from the ground should call 730-4130.
