SUBJECT: Child Passenger Safety Week

NATURE OF INCIDENT:
CASE NO.:
INCIDENT DATE: 9/12/2009
INCIDENT TIME:
INCIDENT LOCATION:
Child Passenger Safety Week is September 12-18 and the Duluth Fire Department is emphasizing the importance of proper child safety restraint use and the state's new booster seat law to keep children safe while ridding in a vehicle. In Minnesota 83% of child restraints are used incorrectly-meaning children are riding in the wrong restraint or it is not properly secured.
Under Minnesota's new booster seat law, a child cannot ride in a seat belt alone until they turn 8 years old or are 4 feet 9 inches tall-whichever comes first.
Many parents lead busy lives, but it is so critical not to put our schedules ahead of safety. We need to take care of our most precious cargo, our children. Properly secure them in the appropriate child restraint, and make sure to buckle up as well to set a good example.
The Duluth Fire Department/ St Lukes Hospital/ WDIO are sponsoring and conducting a child passenger safety check clinic for parents on Thursday, September 17th from 4-6 p.m. at fire station #7 1419 W. Maple Grove Road. For more information call Marnie Grondahl 730-4399
