BY: Officer Bill Stovern (218) 390-2297

NATURE OF INCIDENT: Special Event
CASE NO.:
INCIDENT DATE: 4/21/2012
INCIDENT TIME: 8:30AM
INCIDENT LOCATION: Downtown and Canal Park areas

Traffic Advisory:

On Saturday, April 21, 2012, beginning at 8:30 a.m. traffic will be diverted from portions of Superior Street in Downtown Duluth, Lake Avenue and Railroad Street for the Fitger's 5K Foot Race.

Motorists should obey temporary “No Parking” areas on the LOWER side of Superior Street from Lake Avenue to 2nd  Avenue East, BOTH sides from 2nd Avenue East to 8th Avenue East,  and the West side of Lake Avenue from the Aerial Bridge to Railroad Street.  Violators will be tagged and towed.

Traffic delays will occur for approximately one hour as westbound traffic will be diverted off of Superior Street between 8th Avenue East and 2nd  Avenue East, and eastbound traffic will be diverted at Lake Avenue and will remain closed until 8th Avenue East.  Motorists should be alert for officers directing traffic Downtown, in the Canal Park area and near the DECC.  The East side of Lake Avenue over I-35 will be coned off for the Race.  This will close the Northbound on and Southbound I-35 off ramps to Lake Avenue.  Railroad Street will be closed for the duration of the race from Garfield Avenue to Lake Avenue South.

Delays may occur in traffic getting to Fitger's and the Pickwick.  5th Avenue West will be the only access to the DECC, and Lake Avenue will be the only access to the Canal Park area during the race.

Traffic should return to normal by approximately 10:30 a.m.

The Fitger's 5K Race is sponsored by the Fitger's Brewery Complex and Grandma's Marathon.
