On May 21st 2012 through June 3rd, 2012 locally the Duluth Police Department, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Hermantown Police Department, Proctor Police Department, Floodwood Police Department, UMD Police Department and Minnesota State Patrol increased seatbelt enforcement in a “Click It or Ticket” campaign.
We are pleased to report the campaign was a success. Our pre-campaign seatbelt use survey showed daytime use in Duluth was 87 percent, the post-campaign seatbelt daytime use is now 95 percent. This survey was completed at the same location and time of day, before and after enforcement. The statewide average for daytime seatbelt use is 92 percent.
Duluth Police and our law enforcement partners issued 88 total seatbelt citations, 35 of those were at night. Also, 1 child seat citation was issued.
