Winter Maintenance with Reduced Environmental Impacts

Training Class Announced

Duluth, MN, September 21st, 2009 - The City of Duluth is proud to announce its partnership with the Regional Stormwater Protection Team (RSPT), the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT), and Fortin Consulting to host a winter maintenance training class October 14th, 2009 at the MNDOT building in Duluth from 9 AM to 1:30 PM.

On of the largest sources of sediment pollution in our lakes and rivers is runoff from streets and parking lots; much of which can be avoided with a few simple practices. This unique training session is designed for operators of heavy snow removal equipment, such as contractors and snow plow drivers. The class features innovative techniques to reduce environmental impacts created by road and street maintenance.

Attendees will receive official Winter Maintenance Certificate crediting their attendance, and will have the option to test for, and receive certification from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). The class is free and attendees will receive lunch and refreshments. However, space is limited to the first 50 people and participants must register. To register for this class please call 763-478-3267.

The City of Duluth is a member of the Regional Stormwater Protection Team, which is a unique, cooperative effort between 26 area cities, townships, natural resource agencies, universities and other groups who are working to raise awareness of the impact stormwater runoff has on our streams, rivers, and lakes.
