City of Duluth Conducting Property Assessments Related to Flood Damage
[Duluth, MN]- As part of the flood recovery process, City of Duluth Assessors and Building Inspectors also need to assess private property damage and get access into homes. These inspections serve several purposes, 1) property owners may be eligible for tax abatements from the Minnesota Department of Revenue, 2) this information is helpful as we request FEMA assistance, and 3) Inspectors need to make sure that properties are safe for habitation and utilities have not been compromised during the flood. All City staff will be wearing identification badges.
The City requests that residents and private businesses call 730-5300 to report property damage related to the flood. Damage Assessment teams have been visiting impacted neighborhoods in separate groups but may have missed some residents. Inspectors leave white placards at the front door for those residents who are not home.
The City is aware that some properties may have sustained damage which has not been reported. The City encourages those property owners, who have not been assessed to complete an online damage report form at http://duluthmndev.gov/2012_flood under “Reporting Damage.” This form will assist city staff to track additional properties, residential and businesses, that still need to be assessed.
City staff plans to be back out in neighborhoods starting on Saturday, June 30 and will also make return visits to homes with white placards. City staff will also be at the following locations to assist property owners fill out the damage survey form from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm:
Grant Community Recreation Center, 11th St. & 9th Ave. E.
Irving Community Recreation Center, 20 S. 57th Ave. W.
Harrison Community Recreation Center, 3000 W. 3rd St.
The Glen Avon Hockey Rinks, 2405 Woodland Avenue
