NATURE OF INCIDENT: Female Vehicle Prowl/Felony Theft Suspect Arrested with Public's Help

INCIDENT LOCATION: 500 block West Morgan Street

On Wednesday, July 5th, 2012 at 8:24PM Duluth Police took a report of a vehicle prowl that occurred in the 500 block of West Morgan Street.  The owner’s wallet was stolen and several of the stolen credit cards inside were used to make purchases totaling over $1,200 at the Hermantown Wal-Mart store. Surveillance video captured images of the suspect leaving a store where the stolen credit cards were used. 

On July 11th, 2012 the Duluth Police Department put out a press release seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect.  On July 12th, 2012 Duluth Police Property Crimes Investigators received several calls identifying the female suspect captured in the surveillance video images as Heather Bates, a 37 year old, female resident of Duluth.
 
Duluth Police officers located and arrested Heather Bates the same day in 200 block of East Superior Street and transported her to the Saint Louis County Jail pending formal charges for Misdemeanor Possession of Stolen Property and Felony Financial Transaction Fraud. Some of the stolen items were recovered and Bates admitted to the fraudulent credit card transactions. The case remains under investigation. No further information is available at this time.
