On Saturday, June 23rd, 2012 at 5:56AM Duluth Police were called to the Little Store at 7002 Grand Avenue after it was robbed.
Initial investigation revealed the suspect entered the store and pulled out a tire iron and asked for money from the clerk. He stated that he was in need of a couple of hundred dollars as his daughter was in the hospital dying. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash and ran eastbound from the store. No one was injured.

On Thursday, July 5th, 2012 the Duluth Police Department put out a press release with images of the suspect captured by the store’s surveillance camera and asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect. As a result we received a tip from the public identifying the suspect as Kyle Stangel, a 23 year old male resident of Duluth.
On Monday, July 16th, 2012 Duluth Violent Crimes Unit Investigators and a Saint Louis County Investigator arrested Stangel on an unrelated Saint Louis County Warrant at a residence in the 100 block of North 56th Avenue West. He was transported to the Saint Louis County Jail and interviewed about the Little Store robbery. Stangel admitted to the robbery, saying he needed the money for his daughter’s daycare expenses. He remains in custody pending formal charges for 1st Degree Aggravated Robbery.
The Duluth Police Department would like to thank the public for their quick response and assistance in this case, which ultimately led to Kyle Stangel’s arrest.
