NATURE OF INCIDENT: Police Seek Public's Help Identifying Shoplifting & Auto Theft Suspect
CASE NO.: 12144391 xr 12144409
INCIDENT DATE: 7/30/2012
INCIDENT TIME: 12:33 PM
INCIDENT LOCATION: Hermantown Wal-Mart

On Monday, July 30th, 2012 at 12:33 PM Hermantown Police and Duluth Police received a call to attempt to locate a vehicle and suspects from a shoplifting incident that occurred at the Hermantown Wal-Mart store. The suspect’s were described as follows:

1.)    Native American male, late 20’s, long black hair in pony tail, wearing a red shirt, grey shorts, and red tennis shoes.
2.)    Native American female

Initial information was the suspects left the store after stealing 3 bags of clothing, in a grey silver Cadillac Seville with  Fon-Du-Lac license plates, headed southbound on Miller Trunk Highway towards Duluth. A short time later the suspect vehicle was spotted at 4th Street and 3rd Avenue East and a Duluth officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued onto southbound I-35, then I-535 over the Blatnik bridge into Superior, Wisconsin.

At 1:03 PM Superior Wisconsin Dispatch reported that a City of Superior Water and Light Service vehicle had been stolen in the area of 17th Street and Hammond Avenue. The Cadillac was located in the same area by Superior police and was now unoccupied.

A Duluth police officer then located the stolen Superior Water and Light vehicle on the Bong Bridge headed towards Duluth and attempted to stop it. The vehicle would not pull over and began traveling recklessly and initially at a high rate of speed into West Duluth. Due to the reckless manner of driving Duluth officers kept their emergency lights and sirens on in order to warn other drivers. While officers followed the vehicle the back door was open and numerous tools and other items were coming out of the back. Officers followed the truck until it reached the area of 56th Avenue West and Elinor Street, where the driver fled. A perimeter was established and a search of the area was conducted but we were unable to locate the suspect.

It was later learned that this vehicle also hit 2 occupied vehicles in Superior, WI, and one occupied vehicle and one unoccupied vehicle in Duluth. No one was injured.

The Hermantown Police Department obtained surveillance photographs from the Hermantown Wal-mart store which showed images of the male suspect. The Hermantown Police Department, Duluth Police Department and Superior Police Department ask that anyone with any information, or knows the suspects or there whereabouts is asked to call 911.
