SuperiorMan Triathalon

 

On Sunday, August 26^th, 2012 the SuperiorMan Triathalon will be held in the Harbor & Bayfront Areas and on London Road., resulting in some road closures.

The event starts at 06:30 when participants are dropped in the Harbor to swim to a transition area behind the DECC on Harbor Drive. Boating traffic in the Harbor will be limited at this time.

 

Between 7-7:30am participants transition to bicycles and travel through the Bayfront area, taking Michigan Street, Superior Street, London Road and the Highway 61 Expressway to Two Harbors where they turn around taking the Scenic Highway and the same route back to the DECC. During the bike portion of this event the following roadw will be closed:

   -Railroad Street -from 5^th Ave W to Garfield Ave

   -Superior Street-from 3^rd Ave E to 10^th Ave E

   -Michigan Street-from 5^th Ave W to 4^th Ave E

   -London Road from 10^th Ave E to 12^th Ave E

   -21^st Avenue East-from Superior Street down to Water Street

The 21^st Ave East I-35 Ramps will be closed, however 26^th Avenue East ramps will remain open.

I-35 Ramps on 5^th Ave West will be affected. The Northbound Of-Ramp and Southbound On- Ramp will remain open.

There will be a coned lane for bicyclists only on:

   -the East side of 5^th Ave West

 - the lower side of London Road from 12^th Ave E to15th Ave E,

 -the lower side of London Road from 20^th Ave E to 21^st Ave E,

 -the lower side of London Road from 26^th Ave E to the Highway 61 Expressway.

 

When participants return to the DECC they will transition from the bike portion of the race to running.   Runners will travel up Harbor drive and around the Irvin taking the Lakewalk down and back up behind the Canal Park Lodge where they enter back onto Railroad Street toward Garfield Avenue where they turn around and head back to the rear of the DECC. They travel this route three times to finish the Triathalon.

During the running portion of this event the following roads will be closed:

   -Harbor drive from 5^th Ave W to just below the East DECC Lot Entrance (East DECC Lot Entrance and 5^th Ave W Connector to Railroad St remain open).

   -West bound Railroad Street from Lakeplace Dr ive to 5^th Ave W (East bound remains open)

   -Railroad Street from 5^th Ave W to Garfield Ave

 

DECC access is down Lake Avenue or 5^th Ave W to Railroad Street.

Park Point is accessible down Lake Avenue.

Roads should be open to normal traffic by approximately 3pm.

Drivers in the area of this event should be observant of No Parking signs, Detours, heavy pedestrian traffic, and Police Officers directing traffic.
