Mayor to present 2013 Budget to
Duluth City Council Today

[Duluth, MN] - Mayor Don Ness will present the 2013 Proposed Property Tax Levy and General Fund Budget to the Duluth City Council tonight, August 27, 2012 at 6:30 pm. The City Council will approve a maximum tax levy on September 10, 2012 followed by budget presentations from each of the City departments in the upcoming months. The City Council will vote on and certify the final 2013 tax levy and budget in December.
Highlights of the presentation:
  • The 2013 Budget recommends a 1.6% levy increase, the lowest recommended levy since year 2000.
  • The 2013 Budget expenditures of $73.7 million are $1 million dollars less than the 2012 budget. This was accomplished in spite of a $1.7 million increase in health insurance costs.
  • 2013 Proposed General Fund Budget represents the fifth consecutive year of decreases in general fund expenditures.

Additional details of the 2013 Proposed Property Tax Levy and General Fund Budget will be available at tonight’s presentation. The proposed budget will be also available on the City of Duluth website tomorrow at
