UMD annual move-in weekend

The Duluth Police Department and the University of Minnesota-Duluth Police Department created a partnership to increase the amount of patrol officers assigned to the area surrounding the University of Minnesota-Duluth campus from August 30th, 2012 though September 2nd, 2012.  A grant awarded to the Duluth Police Department from the Invitation Health Institute assisted in the increased enforcement for UMD’s annual move-in weekend.  During that time, there were 54 calls for service to the area surrounding the campus.  The calls generated in this area directly involved college students.

The types of calls officers responded to were party calls, disturbances, loud music calls and subject stop calls where officers come across people in routine patrol functions. Of these 54 calls for service, there were approximately 43 citations issued which is down from 64 citations last year at this time.

Of the 43 citations issued, 19 were for Underage Consumption, 6 Social Host, 2 Obstructing the Legal Process, 6 for Alcohol Prohibited in Public, 5 Disorderly Conduct, 1 Urinating in Public, 1 False Name to a Police Officer, 1 Motor Vehicle Tampering, 1 Fleeing Police on Foot and 1 Underage person in Possession of Alcohol.  A total of 3 people were brought to detox and 2 people were lodged at the St. Louis County Jail.  One of the persons brought to jail was lodged for underage consumption, false name to a police officer and obstructing the legal process.  The other was lodged for fleeing police on foot, underage consumption, obstructing the legal process and underage person in possession of alcohol.
