City of Duluth Kicks-Off Community-wide Local Energy Action Plan
[Duluth, MN] - Community members, area organizations and businesses are strongly encouraged to attend the kick-off of the City of Duluth’s Community-wide Local Energy Action Plan (“LEAP”) Energy Visioning Public Engagement Session. The public meeting will be held on Monday, September 17, 2012 from 6:30 p.m.to 8:00 p.m at Lake Superior College, Building S, Room 2964. During this interactive meeting, attendees will learn about the Duluth LEAP planning process, hear updates on past/current energy projects and progress, learn how to get involved, and share specific thoughts on the future of energy in Duluth as the Energy Leadership Team forms a guiding vision for the plan. Mayor Don Ness will deliver a welcoming message to the group.
The overall goal for developing and implementing the Community-wide Local Energy Action Plan is to move Duluth toward becoming a more prosperous community with a more secure and vibrant economy. Duluth’s LEAP will be developed using a community-based engagement process and will identify short and long term goals, strategies, and actions for four energy sectors; Residential, Commercial & Industrial, Public (local, area county and state government units, schools and higher education) and Transportation.
The project is sponsored by the City of Duluth and facilitated by the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission (ARDC). The project planning period is from September 2012 through May 2013, with final plan adoption by the Duluth City Council.
The Duluth LEAP planning process is made possible by the City of Duluth, in part from the City’s Energy Management Fund and is funded in part by the Knight Fund of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation and the MN Power Conservation Improvement Program.
The Arrowhead Regional Development Commission is a regional planning organization that serves the counties of Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis in Northeastern Minnesota. ARDC is an equal opportunity employer.
