Public Invited to Discuss Proposed Expansion of Resident Parking Permit Zone near UMD
[Duluth, MN] - The public is invited to discuss a proposed expansion of the UMD-area resident parking permit zone. A public meeting will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 15, 2012, in the library media room of the former Woodland Middle School, which is located at 201 Clover Street.
The proposed new parking permit zone would be bounded by East Clover Street on the north, Irving Place on the east, East Kent Road on the south, and Woodland Avenue on the west. Within these boundaries, the proposed zone also would include East 8th Street and East College Street.
During daytime hours of the school year, a resident parking permit zone restricts parking on city streets to those who reside within the zone. In addition, residents only may park within 500 feet of their own residence. For each residential dwelling unit, there is a maximum of three resident permits (currently at a cost of $5 per vehicle per school year) and a maximum of two regular visitor permits (currently at a cost of $2 per vehicle per school year). Resident permits are assigned to a specific vehicle and are not transferrable to any other vehicle. Permits must be renewed yearly.
Following public input, any proposed expansion of the UMD-area resident parking permit zone would need to be brought to the City Council for approval before implementation. Anyone unable to attend the meeting may feel free to contact Parking Manager Matthew Kennedy at 218-730-5178 to provide feedback on the proposal.
