SALVATION ARMY LAUNCHES KETTLE SEASON WITH BENTLEYVILLE

DULUTH, Minn. –The Salvation Army-Duluth will launch its 2012 Christmas Red Kettle season with a press conference at the Bentleyville Tour of Lights at Bayfront Park in Duluth at 5:00PM on November 9th.  Although Bentleyville will not be open to the public until November 17th, Bentleyville crews will power up much of the display for this event.

Mayor Don Ness will deliver a  “Salvation Army Red Kettle Day” proclamation, and Santa Clause will be skydiving into Bentleyville during the event. November 9^th marks the first day of The Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle campaign, its largest fundraising effort of the year. 17 area businesses will host Red Kettles and bell ringers November 9^th through December 24^th.

When Bentleyville is open to the public, visitors are encouraged to bring toys or non-perishable food items to donate as they enter.  Food and toys received at Bentleyville will be distributed by The Salvation Army to needy families in Duluth, Cloquet, Hibbing, Chisholm, and Grand Rapids.

The Bentleyville team and Bentleyville visitors brighten the holidays for many of the people we serve.” said Major Bill Cox, who along with his wife Betsy serve as Corps Officers at The Salvation Army, Duluth..

 “We’re blessed to be part of a long history of working together with area churches, businesses, service organizations, government agencies, and hundreds of volunteers in serving the Duluth community.  Duluth today is very different than it was when the Salvation Army first came here 120 years ago, but the essence of our work is the same. We’re here to share God’s love and meet the basic human needs of those in our community who need it most.”
