SUBJECT: 18 year old male struck by Hit and Run vehicle

NATURE OF INCIDENT: Pedestrian Injury Hit and Run Crash

INCIDENT TIME: 0234 hours
INCIDENT LOCATION: 2200 Block of Rice Lake Road

Duluth Police are seeking the publics help in locating the driver and the vehicle that sent an 18 year old Oak Grove, Minnesota, male to an area hospital with life threatening injuries.
 
This morning, Saturday, October 31, 2009, at 2:34 AM, Duluth Police responded to a personal injury pedestrian/motor vehicle hit and run crash in the 2200 block of Rice Lake Road. The 18 year old victim was walking south on the shoulder with three friends when he was struck by a newer black SUV that was also headed south. After striking the victim the vehicle left and continued south on the Rice Lake Road.
 
The victim has been identified as 18 year old Alexander Michael Balluff of Oak Grove, Minnesota. Balluff was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center by Gold Cross Ambulance where he is in critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
 
The vehicle is described as a newer small black SUV, possibly a Honda. The SUV will have damage to its passenger side front and may have damage to the passenger side hood area. The SUV may also be missing its passenger side mirror which was left at the scene.   Anyone with information on this vehicle or its location is asked to call 911 immediately.
 
Anyone with other information on the crash is asked to call Investigator Ryan Morris at 218-730-5655. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
