NATURE OF INCIDENT: Armed Robbery/Two Duluth Men Formally Charged

On Friday, February 15^th, 2013 at 1:14 AM Duluth Police were called to the 2800 block of West 2^nd on the report of an armed robbery.

Initial investigation revealed two suspects approached a 32 year old male victim and one of them asked him for a cigarette and spare change. The victim did not have either and when he told him he pulled out a handgun and pointed it at him and said he “must have some spare change for charity.” The second suspect then stated “then we should just steal his truck.” The victim was able to get away from the suspects and went into his house and called 911.

A few minutes later Duluth Officers located two suspects matching the description in the 2800 block of West # 3 alley. They were identified as Anthony Prout, a 23 year old male resident of Duluth and Alexander Duncan, a 19 year old male resident of Duluth. Officer located 9mm handgun on Prout. The victim positively identified both suspects.

They were both transported to the Saint Louis County Jail and have been formally charged with Attempted Aggravated Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Robbery.

Officers noted during the arrest that Prout and the handgun he had both matched the description from an armed robbery that occurred on Friday, February 8^th, 2013 at 12:40 AM at 24^th Avenue West and 5^th Street. On that armed robbery a lone male suspect came out of # 5 alley with a gun in his hand and asked the 28 year old male victim if he had any money. The victim opened his wallet to show the suspect he did not have any and the suspect took a couple of cigarettes from him and left headed eastbound back through the alley. Officers were unable to locate the suspect at that time.

On Wednesday, February 20^th, 2013 Duluth Police Violent Crimes Investigators interviewed Anthony Prout at the Saint Louis County Jail and he admitted to the robbery that occurred on February 8^th, 2013. Also, investigators were able to show the victim of that robbery a photo line-up and Anthony Prout was positively identified by the victim as the suspect that robbed him.

Additional formal charges of Aggravated Robbery for the February 8^th, 2013 incident are being requested on Anthony Prout.
