NATURE OF INCIDENT: Duluth Man Arrested for Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft

INCIDENT LOCATION: 100 block East First Street

On Wednesday, February 27th, 2013 at 10:52 AM Duluth Police were called to the 100 block of East First Street on an attempted auto theft.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim’s vehicle was rummaged through and was not drive-able because of damage to the ignition area. In checking images captured from a surveillance camera, a male suspect is shown entering the vehicle in a parking lot at 11:56 PM on February 26th, 2013 and he stayed inside it for approximately 20 minutes before leaving on foot. The investigating officer recognized the suspect from past contact with him as Gilberto Johnson, a 33 year old male resident of Duluth.  

The investigating officer put out an attempt to locate for Gilberto Johnson and he was located a short time later in the #10 block of North 2nd Avenue East and arrested. 
Gilberto Johnson has the following convictions:
2001 – 2nd Degree Burglary
2002 – 3rd Degree Burglary
2003 – Motor Vehicle Tampering
2012 – Domestic Assault (Misdemeanor)
2012 – 5th Degree Assault
2012 – Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Gilberto Johnson was transported to the Saint Louis County Jail and lodged pending formal charges for Felony Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft and Misdemeanor Motor Vehicle Tampering.
