Public Meeting on Park Point Small Area Plan Scheduled

The City of Duluth invites the public to attend the Park Point Small Area Plan Public Meeting on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Lafayette Community Recreation Center, located at 3026 Minnesota Avenue. At this meeting, City Planners will discuss the purpose of the plan, the Plan Committee’s work to date, and share options for recommendations of the small area plan.

The Park Point Small Area Plans build on the goals, policies, and implementation strategies in the City’s 2006 Comprehensive Land Use Plan and serves to augment the Comprehensive Land Use Plan by providing more detailed recommendations. The Park Point Small Area Plan includes the entire 583.5 acres of Park Point from the Aerial Lift Bridge to the Superior Harbor entry. Recent planning and development activity on Park Point, including implementation of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan, as well as commercial development including two hotel approvals, public access beach issues and infrastructure (water and sewer) capacity concerns, has raised a number of questions regarding changes to existing land use patterns and the character of the Park Point neighborhood. Therefore, it is necessary for the City to study the area in greater detail to develop and implement a long term plan that will maintain but also enhance the neighborhood character for residents and visitors of Park Point. The planning process began in the January of 2013 and is expected to conclude in late spring of 2013.
