On Saturday, March 9th, 2013 at 3:31 PM Duluth Police responded to 702 North 24th Avenue West for an unresponsive male that was possibly deceased. Officers arrived and found Bryan Starnes, a 27 year old resident deceased and began a suspicious death investigation.

On Monday, March 11th, 2013 the Saint Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the victim and ruled the manner of death as homicide and the cause; injuries due to a stabbing.
After following several leads and follow-up investigation, Duluth Police Violent Crimes Unit Investigators located a 17 year old juvenile male suspect in Duluth on Monday night. He was located in the area of Central Entrance and Upham Rd. He was interviewed at Duluth Police Headquarters and then transported to the Arrowhead Juvenile Center and has been formally charged for 2nd Degree Murder.
UPDATE:
On Friday, March 22nd, 2013 at 10:45 AM Duluth Police Violent Crimes Unit Investigators located Kenneth Johnson, a 33 year old male resident of Duluth in the 400 block of East 4th Street. Johnson is boyfriend to the mother of the 17 year old juvenile male charged with 2nd Degree Murder in this case.
Johnson was taken into custody in regards to information investigators received about Johnson aiding the suspect after the homicide. Investigators do not believe that Johnson was at the victim’s residence when the homicide occurred. However, he later obstructed investigators by not providing information; and also providing misleading information. Johnson aided the suspect in selling property stolen from the victim’s residence. He also received proceeds from the victim’s stolen property that was sold.
