Public Invited to Comment on Proposed 21st Avenue West Project
The City of Duluth is accepting public comments during a 30-day public review period from April 1 to May 1, 2013, on an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) that was prepared for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 21st Avenue West project.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Detroit District proposes to place limited quantities of dredged material from maintenance dredging of the Federal navigation project at Duluth-Superior Harbor into the embayment of the 21st Avenue West Channel in Duluth, Minnesota. This will allow for evaluation of using dredged material from maintenance dredging of the harbor for aquatic habitat restoration.
A copy of the EAW is available online at www.duluthmn.gov/planning. Additional copies of the EAW are available for public review at:
• Duluth Public Library, 520 West Superior Street, Duluth
• Duluth Planning Office, 411 West First Street, Room 208, Duluth
The EAW will be published in the April 1, 2013 EQB Monitor. Written comments must be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, to the attention of Charles Froseth, Land Use Supervisor, 411 West First Street, Room 208, Duluth MN 55802.
The Planning Commission will take optional public comments at their April 9, 2013, Planning Commission meeting. Please note that optional public comments will also be heard at this same meeting on the EAW for the proposed CN Dock 6 Stabilization Project.
The Planning Commission will likely make a decision on the USACE EAW and the potential need for an EIS at their May 14, 2013, Planning Commission meeting.
Electronic or email comments may be sent to cfroseth@duluthmn.gov with “USACE 21st Avenue West Dredged Material” in the subject line. If submitting comments electronically, include name and mailing address.
