NATURE OF INCIDENT: Duluth Police Issue Warning about Recent Heroin Overdoses
CASE NO.:
INCIDENT DATE: 5/5/2013
INCIDENT TIME:
INCIDENT LOCATION: Duluth, MN

Between Friday, April 26th, 2013 and Saturday, May 4th, 2013 the Duluth Police Department and emergency responders have handled the report of four overdose incidents believed to be linked to the illegal use of heroin.  Three of the overdoses have occurred since yesterday. The incidents involved four persons believed to have overdosed on heroin based on information obtained at the scenes.  All needed to be transported to local hospitals, none have died.

The increase in overdoses primarily attributed to heroin use has again brought attention to this important issue.  Similar reports of overdoses and increased heroin potency continue to occur state and nationwide.  The Duluth Police department continues to engage in efforts to combat the trafficking, sale, and use of heroin through arrests and prosecution of persons involved in trafficking these types of drugs.

Investigators from the department are investigating the recent incidents in an attempt to determine the source of the increase. Persons with information related to narcotics activity are encouraged to call the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force at 218-730-5750.
