NATURE OF INCIDENT: Shooting Update - Assault Suspect Arrested

INCIDENT TIME: 8:34 PM
INCIDENT LOCATION: 7th Avenue East & 4th Street

On Tuesday, May 28th, 2013 at 8:34 PM Duluth Police were called to the area of 7th Avenue East & 4th Street on a shooting that had just occurred. 

Initial investigation revealed that the victim Deandre Deontrius Norwood, a 22 year old male resident of Duluth was walking outside when he was hit by a single gunshot resulting in a wound to the head. He was transported by private vehicle to Essentia St. Mary’s hospital and is in stable condition.
If anyone has any information about this incident they are asked to call 911. Duluth Police Violent Crimes Unit investigators are following up on several leads. This is an active investigation and no further information is available at this time.
UPDATE:
On Wednesday, May 29th, 2013 Duluth Police Violent Crimes Investigators identified a suspect in this case who approached the victim and got into an argument him. That suspect was identified as Dameon Juvan Henley, a 26 year old male resident of Duluth who pulled out a handgun and pushed it into the victim’s stomach. Henley then pulled the trigger several times; the gun did not go off. The suspect and victim were known to each other. Another suspect then came up to the victim and shot him in the head.
On Thursday, May 30th, 2013 Dameon Juvan Henley was arrested for 2nd Degree Assault and transported to the Saint Louis County Jail. He has now been formally charged.
Duluth Police are continuing to make progress on this case and are following several leads.  Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call the Duluth Police Department Violent Crimes Unit at (218) 730-5050.  No further information is available at this time.
