NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire @ 9000 Congdon Blvd
CASE NO.: 13-005430
INCIDENT DATE: 7/3/2013
INCIDENT TIME: 13:39
INCIDENT LOCATION: 9000 Congdon Blvd

The Duluth Fire Department responded to report of explosion and fire at the Lake Breeze Motel. Upon arrival, crews found the main two story building of the complex nearly fully involved in fire. Fire was encroaching on an adjacent structure. All occupants had evacuated the building, however two patients were transported to a local hospital with injuries sustained in the fire. A second alarm was called due to the volume of fire and size of the structure. Crews were able to stop the fire from progressing to adjacent structures. Due to the size and intensity of the fire, coupled with numerous and complicated construction features, crews spent five hours on the scene containing, extinguishing and overhauling the fire. No firefighter injuries were reported. Crews from Lakeside, Woodland, UMD, Downtown and Lincoln Park responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no property damage estimates are available at this time, though the structure is considered a total loss.
