Viking Ship to be Moved Causing Temporary Closing of Lakewalk

The City of Duluth will be moving the "Viking Ship" out of Leif Erikson Park on Thursday, July 11^th.   The ship will be temporarily stored at the City's 42^nd West Tool house until a final location is determined and a secure structure to house the ship is constructed.  Viant Crane will be on site this Thursday beginning at 6:00 AM to move the ship and it is anticipated the move will take all morning, possibly into the afternoon.  This section of the Lakewalk will need to be closed to pedestrian traffic during the moving of the ship.   The City has established an alternate Lakewalk route along London Road and the Rose Garden.  We ask the public to please follow the signs designating the detour.  The Police Department and the City of Duluth Parks Maintenance staff will escort the ship enroute along 1^st Street until it is out of the downtown area.  For more information contact Tari Rayala, City of Duluth Architect at (218) 730-4434 or Neill Atkins, Chair Leif Erikson Restoration at 218-727-4767 natkins926@earthlink.net
